BRP Agrees to Sell Telwater to Yamaha Motor Australia
One of Australia’s leading boatbuilders is set to enter a new chapter under new ownership. The sale marks a significant shift in the local marine manufacturing landscape, with one of Australia’s most recognised boatbuilders preparing to join Yamaha’s growing portfolio.
In a statement released to dealers on April 1, BRP confirmed it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell 100 per cent of Telwater to Yamaha Motor Australia Pty Ltd., a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to be finalised between May and July 2025.
The move follows BRP’s broader decision in late 2024 to divest its marine businesses and focus on core powersports activities. With this sale, Telwater—home to iconic Australian brands including Quintrex, Stacer and Yellowfin Plate —will shift from Canadian ownership to join one of the global leaders in marine and motor products.
Until the transaction is complete, BRP has confirmed it will be business as usual for Telwater dealers. There will be no changes to current operations, and existing service levels will remain in place.
Once the deal closes, Yamaha Motor Australia is expected to reach out to dealers with more detailed information about the transition. In the meantime, Telwater’s leadership has assured partners that their teams remain committed to delivering the same high level of support and service.
As for the remaining BRP Marine brands not included in this sale, discussions with other potential buyers are ongoing. BRP expects those negotiations to conclude by the end of April or early in the following quarter.
