The first Whitehaven 6500 Coupe is taking shape—designed to the exacting brief of its experienced owners and crafted to represent the pinnacle of bespoke yacht building.

This 20+ metre, three-cabin, three-ensuite motor yacht is the result of a close collaboration between the owners and award-winning designer, Misha Merzliakov. Having worked with Whitehaven for nearly a decade, Misha was entrusted to design the couple’s next “dream boat” after they sold their Whitehaven 7000 Flybridge Komotion, the very first Whitehaven ever built.

“We’re older and wiser now,” the couple quipped. “The 6500 was conceived to include all the features, conveniences and comforts of all the boats we’ve owned. And Misha was the one we entrusted with our ideas.”

Misha worked closely with them, refining the design brief and sourcing fittings and finishes worldwide.

“Their vision is to stretch Whitehaven’s capabilities and elevate every aspect of the design. They loved the Coupe 6100 Euro and wanted to evolve it to a step above,” he explained.

Design Evolution

A key feature is the extended roofline, a major challenge to balance function and form.

“I had to really think about where the exterior design would end up—almost like a BMW or Volkswagen shooting brake. It was very difficult to get right, but we created enough deck coverage without compromising the lines.”

The result is a longer roof plus a retractable shade, ensuring year-round use of the aft deck. Other exterior highlights include new 6000-series hull windows, a redesigned mast, and Whitehaven’s renowned ocean-going stability.

Crafted for Entertaining

Inside, the owners poured months into finishes and materials to create a cohesive, neutral-toned interior with layered textures and European-inspired detailing.

“It is destined to be something extraordinary,” Misha said. “The objective is to envelope guests and stimulate all the senses with understated luxury.”

Lighting plays a crucial role.

“Lighting underpins the ambience, to make it cosy, welcoming and appear more spacious. I try to bring more elegance and purpose to the lighting design each yacht we work on.”

The single-level main deck provides a spacious galley, hidden Italian hardware, and pared-back cabinetry for a seamless, contemporary aesthetic.

Whitehaven Difference

Production Manager Ryan Hanson oversees construction, ensuring every detail meets Whitehaven’s standards of custom craftsmanship.

“Simply importing a European boat doesn’t cut it,” Misha stated. “Australia’s climate is harsher, and our boats travel further through blue water. This drives design decisions—and this Coupe embodies them in spades.”

Set for completion ahead of the 2025 summer season, the Whitehaven 6500 Coupe stands as an heirloom vessel—timeless, meticulously crafted, and truly bespoke.
