BRIG has started a marine revolution, a BRIG revolution that is! Boating evolution has awoken a sleeping giant with the massive worldwide popularity of BRIG inflatables. Where once inflatable boats were the realm of small tenders, dive boats, the military and surf lifesavers, there is now a huge realisation of their greater potential. BRIG is at the crest of that wave.

BRIG soft floor and rigid hull inflatables are at the cutting edge of design and manufacture. Their European-based 100,000-square-foot plant employs a large team of specialist designers, engineers, and highly skilled tradesmen, producing their hand-built range, including seven models in the Eagle flock from 3.4 to this massive 10-metre contender, plus a huge range of other models with both soft floor and rigid hull options.

BRIG says, “We have created a new generation of affordable yet uncompromised RIBs that deliver the highest levels of performance, safety and enjoyment. At BRIG, we fuse the cutting-edge design, technology and precision engineering of military aeronautics with the finest marine craftsmanship.”

BRIG claims to be the largest selling RIBS across Europe, and the number one brand in Australia, Sweden, Holland, Finland and the UK, with the Eagle 10 being the flagship of the impressive fleet. The more you consider it, the more application it reveals. It may well be a luxury tender for a large cruiser or super yacht, a worthy commuter, an exciting offshore explorer, an able dive boat, an island hopper, a capable rescue boat, a military weapon, a commercial worker, an adventure charter or an explosive recreational vessel capable of extreme fun, fun, fun.

The Ride, I Must Tell You About The Ride!

But before I write further, I must tell you about the ride! BRIG states that they “take RIB performance, comfort and safety to a new level”, and I am pleased to confirm every word of it. I don’t believe I have ever felt so safe in any comparable vessel, especially when busting out through a sloppy Broadwater Seaway. The Eagle 10 supplied perhaps the softest ride I can remember as 600HP of Yamaha power launched us up, over, through and around the swelly slop with little regard. Yet the other big surprises came from the fact that there was literally no spray, and when we pulled up sideways to the pitching waves, her stability was fantastic. You must drive this exceptionally capable package to believe it!

Set course through the swell with the safety of the air pontoons and soft riding fibreglass hull leaving little wake

600HP of Yamaha Power!

Get ready to feel the wind in your hair - if you stick it out from behind the console windscreen that is! The twin 300HP Yamahas were simply sensational. These 4.2-litre V6 power plants have the satisfying note of a high-performance sports car, plus the grunt to make your hair stand on end. We punched Wide Open Throttle out to a brain-numbing 51.6 knots (96 kph) at 6000RPM without really trying against some wind and current and carrying three passengers but only a small fuel load in the 580 litre tank. But remember, this Eagle 10 is rated to take the weight of 20 passengers, so it needs the horsepower for the load capability. The three of us certainly had a bucket of fun!

The bad news is that at those ridiculous speeds, the Eagle gets mighty thirsty, drinking 202 litres per hour (combined) and travelling 0.4 kilometres to the litre. These big Yammies are actually quite fuel efficient, considering the speed and weight of the confident hull. Plus, it handled the high speed like an offshore racer.

More Sensibly Speaking

But sensibly, we won’t travel at those ridiculous speeds for too long, hence backing off to a very fast travel speed of 66kmh at 4200 RPM gave a far more sensible 0.7km/l, allowing a wide range of 365 km with 10% reserve. I thought to myself about how good it would be as a rescue boat with its speed, range, safety and ride capabilities.

RIBS are far more stable than hard-sided competitors. BRIG have developed their inflatable buoyancy so the tubes sit on the waterline at rest but lift out of the water on the plane allowing the advanced deep-V fibreglass mono-hull to do its seafaring best. The entire design was formulated by the hydrodynamics resulting in exceptional lift, soft ride, dependable tracking and the astonishingly dry ride.

The bare hull weighs in at a low 1910kg at 10.2 metres (33.5 feet) O/A and has beam of 3.4 metres (11.15 feet). The soft sides make it ideal as a tender or perhaps for those of lesser driving ability at close quarters. The twin engines make it exceptionally manoeuvrable, but you often forget just how long this boat is when you get it in a tight marina scenario.

The aft cockpit features plenty of room, a day galley, drink holders and even a cabin displaying its family attitude

Safety, Safety, Safety

You find a heightened sense of confidence from the virtually unsinkable European hypalon “ORCA” buoyancy tubes. I was surprised to hear that they are only filled to around 3ps,i yet they have massive volume,e yet still feel dependably rigid. I was also informed by Gold Coast BRIG agents, Tom Carlisle of Sirocco Marine, that there is a series of independent “socks” inside the hypalon , outers and should any accidentally puncture, then the others basically move around to take their place. That provides real peace of mind.

Yet this is no work barge, the Eagle 10 comes fully loaded with luxury creature comforts. A table on the bow converts to a full lounging sunpad, and all seating comes standard in Silvertex. The decks are beautifully trimmed with faux teak SeaDek flooring and the polar white fibreglass mouldings glisten.

From point to stern, you'll love the Brig Eagle 10 from the moment you leave harbour.

Centre Console and Cabin

The main console not only looks terrific with premium fittings and accessories, but it also provides ergonomic comfort. The stepped front is a terrific seat and lounge pad that your passengers will love. It's fun at all speeds and completes a very sociable bow entertainment area. Under the console is a fully enclosed twin berth, plus a toilet. I would happily spend a few nights cruising in comfort with the facilities. You can keep refreshed with the Isotherm compressor bar fridge recessed into the port side plus a sink and preparation area under the seat backrest.

The convertable bow with its comfortable, removeable cushions. Looking forward to the anchor well.

The helm is a ripper, and its three-sectioned windscreen allows a surprising amount of protection for a couple of large operators at the controls while the bolster-style seat is comfortable seated or standing. Our demonstration unit featured a Garmin 12” multi-function unit and VHF, dual binnacle controls, the Yamaha digital screen and Fusion sound system head unit all neatly recessed into the large dashboard. Driving was a pleasure with the sports steering wheel and hydraulics only adding to the confidence in this worthy craft.

With the throttles held wide open you'll be flying like an Eagle 10.

Overhead, the optional Black Marlin tower not only looked great and provided plenty of shade, while its powder-coated alloy tube frame also supplied plenty of strength. Outback is yet another entertainment and seating area with a plug-in table and all neatly trimmed in matching tan Silvertex upholstery. There’s a small walkway leading to the large stern swim platform that is complete with a stainless steel folding ladder and outdoor shower. From stem to stern, she has plenty of comfort, space and style, and its easy flow enhances its attraction, enticing even more fun on the water.

The Brig Eagle 10 even features a double berth (double bed) as well as a freshwater shower.
