A trio of major festivals, including the return of SCIBS, cements the region’s status as Australia’s lifestyle capital.

The Gold Coast is set to shine on the global stage this month, with three major events forecast to generate more than $40 million in tourism impact for the region.

The iconic Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) leads the charge alongside the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro presented by GWM and Blues on Broadbeach, delivering a dynamic mix of sport, entertainment and marine luxury that is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors and millions of online viewers.

SCIBS Returns to Sanctuary Cove with Record Momentum

Running from May 22 to 25, SCIBS 2025 promises another standout showcase of the marine industry, bringing together more than 43,000 visitors, 330+ exhibitors, and 760 boats across the waterfront precinct. With over 2,500 marine products on display, the event continues to hold its title as Australia’s largest celebration of the boating lifestyle.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for the Gold Coast and a strong example of the value major events deliver to our region,” said Corey Rattray-Wood, Head of Events at Mulpha Events. “SCIBS 2024 delivered an additional $431 million in commercial impact and, with growing momentum, we anticipate even greater results this year.”

Surfing’s Elite Light Up Burleigh Heads

Earlier in the month, the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro drew international surf stars to the legendary waves of Burleigh Heads. World No. 1 Italo Ferreira, Julian Wilson, Kanoa Igarashi, and eight-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore were among the standout names competing, alongside a strong women’s field including 2024 World Champion Caity Simmers and Isabella Nichols.

Blues on Broadbeach Celebrates 24 Years

From May 15–18, the streets of Broadbeach come alive with the Blues on Broadbeach music festival, expected to attract more than 160,000 visitors. Now in its 24th year, the festival features a lineup of major acts including The Cruel Sea, DIESEL, Vika & Linda, Eric Gales, and Salmonella Dub Soundsystem.

Headlining a special ticketed show is none other than Jimmy Barnes, performing hits from his Soul Deep album. He’s joined by guests The Badloves and Pokey LaFarge, adding international flair to a weekend of soulful celebration.

A Blockbuster Month for the City

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate described the month as a “blockbuster” for the city. “We’re seeing the Gold Coast shine on a global stage—drawing visitors from around the country and the world,” he said.

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn added that the curated calendar of events continues to strengthen the city’s appeal. “This May is a perfect example of how a strong and diverse events calendar boosts visitation, energises local businesses, and strengthens the Gold Coast’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading events destinations,” he said.
