Stacer 529 Assault Tournament Pro Boat Review
When your fishing becomes more tactical than trivial, you need to arm yourself with an aquatic attack machine like the Stacer 529 Assault Tournament Pro. This is a highly developed weapon of piscatorial perfection. Combined with the all-new Evinrude ETEC G2 1.9-litre, 3-cylinder 150hp power pack, it launches your attack strategy with the thrust of a Tomahawk missile.
Fishing attitudes and methods have advanced exponentially, with specialists working every submerged branch, rock bar and sandflat in relentless missions seeking their scaly prey, and our escape machines have developed to meet the demand. The Stacer 529 Assault Tournament Pro is the trusted mate that you can depend on as the vehicle for your next expedition.
Size & Speed

At 5.29m overall and with an armour-plated 4mm hull, this bulletproof warrior has the strength, size, speed and stability to be a favoured warrior, plus it is jam-packed full of functional and flexible features and innovative ideas. Yet this is no personnel carrier when it comes to performance, she erupts onto the plane quickly and scoots us along throughout the rev range to a speedy 42.7 knots (79kmh) at WOT and doing 1.5km/l with two on board and a bit of a load.
When it comes to some more sensible travel, we found a thrifty 2.6km/l at a fast mid-range speed of 27.5 knots at 3750rpm, where we could trim the hull for comfort and cover a wide range of 188 km from the 80 litre tank with 10% reserve. Remember that this beast's basic unloaded hull weight is nearly 600kg, and that’s dry without any load, fuel or passengers. In reality, she’s pushing over 1100kg with any equipment on board and 2 of the maximum four passengers.
“Evolution of Revolution”

Stacer says, “These newly designed models feature a substantially sharper entry and the Revolution Hull for a smooth ride, combined with a wide beam to give you stability underfoot—you’ll be reeling in the next big one in no time!”
The Assault Pro 529 utilises Stacer’s “Evolution of Revolution.” Their Revolution hull combines a fine entry flowing through concave bottom sheets and raised chines creating a confident, predictable, very quiet and exhilarating ride that tames the chop easily. As you can see in the images, she tends to throw quite some spray out of the rear sides throughout mid-range travel, but the flow is away from the seating positions, tending to keep the ride stable, flat and passengers dry. She easily pops onto the plane with a low degree of bow rise and scoots through several power bands, reaching WOT smartly. A fair degree of trim availability is handy with moving loads and choppy conditions. At rest, she settles onto an exceptionally stable platform that can only be likened to fishing off a mobile pier.
Ideal Boat For Inshore Fishing Competitions

The internal layout and fit-up are innovative and functional, hitting the design criteria fair on the bullseye. The package is available with an optional single or twin console. Ours was the twin console, as would be my preference.
The Assault Pro has a very fishy attitude with plenty of fully carpeted deck space, thruster bracket out front, lockable hatches all around, a rod locker in located between the seats, welded gunwales and side decks, anchor and live well under the front deck, tonnes of storage, plumbing and electrical lockers, dual transducer brackets, plenty of cleats and a convertible rear casting platform that covers the comfortable SeaPro upholstered seats when their backrests are folded.

Our demonstration package included the optional centre seat between the skipper and navigator, which I believe is an excellent innovation for long-range touring with three on board. I don’t usually like fishing with more than a couple of passengers, but the 529 Assault Pro gives plenty of casting space for three large anglers to target their catch from all angles surrounding the boat.

Plenty of Options
Other options included the dealer-fitted Humminbird Ulterra electric outboard, a factory-supplied thruster plate for electric motors, a 12v outlet/cigarette lighter plug vinyl wrap, and a comfy helm featuring a sports steering wheel, Evinrude digital shift and throttle, iTrim, “iSteer” dynamic power steering, and an Icon Touch 4.3 CTS full-colour touchscreen for engine readouts and diagnostics.
You will “feel the need, the need for speed” when you climb into the cockpit of this sportster with ABS moulded dashboard, flush mount engine controls, separate key start and electrical switches, plus ours had the worthy option of a flush-mounted Lowrance Elite 12 multi-function unit with the sounder continuing its clear and well-defined screen right through to WOT.

There’s plenty of room for some added storage, perhaps even an extra glove box insert in the passenger-side console—or a rocking sound system to fill the blank dashboard.
This Stacer 529 Assault is truly a Tournament Pro, as its name dictates. Its design criteria are those of a truly dedicated fishing boat, so it doesn’t have transom platforms or ladders as standard. However, the powerful package can perform some water sports, so some add-ons may be worth considering for a more functional family all-rounder.

I loved the innovative folding backrest, which extends the casting area dramatically when you reach your fishing destination. It’s a full-width fold-down, making a truly functional rear platform while you hunt your prey with the aid of the remote electric outboard. These are just a few of the forward-thinking new ideas formulated by the Stacer engineers, giving Stacer a real difference from its competitors.
Did I Like It?
Did I like the Stacer 529 Assault Tournament Pro? You bet I did! Plus, the match with the all-new 1.9 litre ETEC G2150HP outboard put a smile on the dial and the wind in the hair! That’s not a bad way to lead the charge into your next sweetwater invasion!
